Allied Health Professionals (AHPs) play a critical role in your hospital experience, and Lakeridge Health Foundation is committed to their ongoing education and advancement.
Every year, the O’Regan Family Allied Health Education Bursary supports AHPs at our Oshawa and Whitby Hospital sites as they continue their development through practice-related courses, conferences and other educational opportunities.
AHPs include physiotherapists, dieticians, speech-language pathologists, and other specialized support staff. Each plays a role in making sure the best health care is available to patients throughout Durham Region.
Since 2022, the O’Regan Family Allied Health Education Bursary has supported 31 AHPs. This year’s bursary was awarded to nine recipients, including Carly Chisholm, Research Coordinator.
“I was thrilled to find out I was a recipient this year,” recalls Carly. “Bursary funding helps make education more accessible and allows professionals like me to strengthen our knowledge and grow.”
Carly is enrolled in the Clinical Research Certificate program at the Michener Institute, which offers her further training in clinical trial design, monitoring and regulatory documentation. She is currently supporting 15+ active research studies at Lakeridge Health.
“This program will strengthen my knowledge of clinical trial operations and help me contribute more effectively to complex research studies,” Carly explains. “The training will also support my goal of progressing to a Clinical Research Coordinator II role with greater responsibilities.”
The skills Carly is gaining from earning her Clinical Research Certificate will help her to better support investigators and her team of research volunteers and expand access to innovative clinical trials for patients at Lakeridge Health’s Hospital sites.
“Thank you to the O’Regan family for your support of this bursary,” Carly says. “Your contribution helps make continued education more accessible and allows professionals like me to expand my knowledge and grow. Your support not only benefits my career development but also helps improve the quality of research and care available to our patient community.”
Congratulations to the nine allied health team members from our Oshawa and Whitby Hospitals who received bursary funding toward discipline-related courses or conferences.
