Global Fashion Company PVH Corporation Supports Local
One of the world’s largest apparel companies is supporting Durham Region’s efforts to battle COVID-19 thanks to a heart-warming personal connection with our local Hospital. PVH Corporation, which owns a number of popular clothing brands includingCalvin Klein, Tommy Hilfiger, Van Heusen, IZOD, Arrow, Warner's, Olga, Geoffrey Beene, and True&Co, recently made an announcement that its Foundation has committed $2 million globally to support COVID-19 relief efforts which included three Canadian beneficiaries: Jewish General Hospital, North York Hospital and $25,000 USD to Lakeridge Health’s Oshawa and Whitby Hospitals.
PVH recognizes that frontline workers, from police officers to medical staff, are the fabric of the community. It’s a sentiment Richard Deck, President of PVH Canada Corp. knows all too well. A long time Whitby resident, Deck has held various senior positions within PVH since 2005. His role with the iconic global fashion company is second to his job as husband and dad to two hospital heroes in the Greater Toronto Area making for a special connection to Durham Region.
The impact of COVID-19 on the frontline became suddenly familiar to Deck these past few months. His wife has been a nurse or 30 years, his son-in-law is a Durham Regional Police Officer, and Deck’s youngest daughter started working as a nurse at Lakeridge Health Oshawa’s Emergency Department just two months ago.
Deck’s personal connection aside, a number of PVH team members in the Toronto office live in Durham Region and he explains it was an obvious choice to invest the funds locally at a Hospital his team had come to rely on.
“While this crisis is unlike anything we’ve ever seen before, supporting our communities - during both good and challenging times - has always been engrained in PVH’s culture.” says Deck. “It’s important to demonstrate how extremely grateful we are as an organization to what the front line health care workers are doing.”
This generous donation from PVH will be part of theDurham Region Fights COVID-19campaign, a fundraising initiative aimed at supporting the urgent needs of Lakeridge Health as a result of the pandemic. Donations to the campaign will support three priorities: resources to improve patient experience, equipment and capital needs for patient care and staff wellness.
“This generous donation from PVH brought with it an unexpected and heart-warming connection to our community and Hospital,” says Yves Gadler, CEO, Lakeridge Health Foundation. “We are very grateful to be one of only three Canadian beneficiaries and recognize PVH’s goal of making an impact globally and at the local level. Thanks to donations like these, our Hospital can continue to keep our families safe and healthy today and into the future. It’s inspiring to know we’ve not just gained the support of PVH but also the advocacy of the Deck family and their commitment to a healthy community.”
