On April 30, more than 150 participants, volunteers, Lakeridge Health staff and physicians gathered at Durham College for another unforgettable NightShift event — and let’s be honest, the pulse was racing all night long. Presented by Connor, Clark & Lunn, NightShift is North America’s first and only medical simulation challenge for the public, giving everyday people the chance to experience the teamwork, pressure and quick thinking required in emergency medicine.
After gearing up during Mini Med School and meeting their medical expert coaches at the Pep Rally, teams tackled two high-energy emergency scenarios brought to life by volunteer actors, realistic FX makeup and Durham College simulation technology. NightShift’s motto — no pressure, just blood pressure — delivered plenty of laughs, adrenaline and unforgettable moments throughout the evening.
This year also featured an exciting coaches fundraising challenge, with Dr. Shannon Trainor and Dr. Dipen Thakrar battling head-to-head for the top spot right down to the final countdown. In the end, Dr. Trainor pulled ahead, raising an incredible $6,250 — a healthy dose of competition for a great cause. Altogether, NightShift 2026 raised more than $60,000 in support of training and simulation equipment for Lakeridge Health and Durham College, helping strengthen health care education right here in Durham Region.
