Get fit, raise funds! Virtual fundraiser for Oshawa Hospital
Getting active online has whole new meaning for participants of Isolation Run for Health Care Workers, who are moving to raise funds for health care workers, including Hildi Wolfish who is getting active in support of Lakeridge Health’s Oshawa Hospital. As many people throughout our community are staying home right now, active community member, Hildi, continued to look for ways she could give back.
As an engaged volunteer, Hildi discovered Isolation Run for Health Care Workers through a volunteer e-newsletter. In fact, because her own son, Dr. Ben Cadesky, works in the General Medicine department of the Oshawa Hospital, Hildi decided this was one way she could give back to other front line heroes. The online virtual event allows participants to run or exercise as incentive to fundraise for the health heroes that matter to them.
“As a mother, I’m proud of him. I want to support him and his colleagues however I can. This was one way.” For Hildi, keeping socially distant has changed how she keeps active. With her gym closed, she stays fit by getting out in her back yard and training with work out videos at home. When Isolation Run for Health Care Workers appeared as an opportunity to give back in a new way she saw a chance to keep active, while doing some good.
“I reached out mostly via e-mail to ask people for support. I’m so glad they would join me in supporting our health workers.”
Hildi’s husband also works in health care at a Toronto fertility clinic and both of them have been staying at home as much as possible. Gratefully, the couple lives close to their son, and they get to enjoy distant front-yard visits with their family and their grandson, Dexter, photographed above with his father, Dr. Ben Cadesky.
Isolation Run for Health Care Workers is a third-party virtual event fundraiser hosted on Race Roster. The virtual event connects participants to support health heroes across Ontario. People like Hildi have dedicated their virtual fundraising efforts to supporting our local health care heroes here at Lakeridge Health Oshawa Hospital.
