Each year on Giving Tuesday, Lakeridge Health Foundation recognizes the community members and hospital staff who represent our most dedicated of supporters.
Today, on November 30, 2021 we presented our Hospital Champion, Community Champion, and for the first time ever, Youth in Philanthropy awards.
The Hospital Champion Award, which recognizes staff who go above and beyond to raise funds and awareness for their Hospital, was presented to a group of inspired physicians who rallied together to create the Dr. Benjamin Fuller and Family Endowment in Emergency Medicine to honour their colleague. Following this success, the team pushed on to bring their total to nearly $62,000 to recognize another colleague, retiring ER veteran Dr. Rudy Vandersluis.
Pictured here are Dr. Benjamin Fuller, Dr. Phil Moran and Dr. Adam Pyle with regrets from Dr. Katey Jakins and Dr. Larry Nijmeh.

Recognizing their perseverance and unique ideas during the darkest days of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Douglas brothers, Kyle, Ryan and Matt (left to right) were awarded the Community Champion Award.
The family created an extremely successful 8-hour challenge event, Laps 4 Lakeridge, a daring winter bike ride that raised over $22,000 for mental health.

Our inaugural Youth in Philanthropy Award was created to recognize a child or youth who has stepped forward to support local health care. The first ever recipient was inspiring teenager Brooklyn Burger-Jacobs who raised nearly $82,000 to establish the Kelly Burger Legacy Endowment Fund in honour of her late mom. Brooklyn's outstanding effort and commitment to advancing cancer care is a true inspiration to community members of all ages.
