We are informing our donors that this past weekend (November 9 to 10) a break-in occurred at our Lakeridge Health Foundation office located in 382 Simcoe St. N. As you can imagine, this news is alarming, but our team is working quickly to address the matter alongside Lakeridge Health Security and Durham Regional Police Services (DRPS). Surveillance footage was used to identify and detain the individuals involved and much of the stolen property was returned. No digital data breach occured which means any donors who made gifts exclusively online are not impacted. Unfortunately, as part of this break in, some hardcopy identifying information about donors (potentially including names, contact information, and banking and/or credit card information) was stolen. An investigation is underway to identify the total impact of this theft on our donor and Foundation family, and we remain committed to swift, transparent communication to those who mean so much to us. It is with an abundance of caution that we share this information with you so that you can take the precautionary steps necessary. Some of these steps include, but not limited to: Notifying your financial institution and/or credit card company of the incident Reviewing any transactions made in the last week involving the relevant bank account and/or credit card Lakeridge Health Foundation is reaching out to leading providers to offer identity monitoring services. More details will be available shortly. Lakeridge Health Foundation considers the privacy of our donors of utmost importance. We continue to work with the DRPS to investigate the incident. Our promise to you moving forward is honest, direct communication and assurance that further enhancements to our advanced security safeguards with our partners at Lakeridge Health is our top priority. In the meantime, if you have any questions or concerns about the incident, please contact us at lhfprivacy@lh.ca or 905-433-4339 and a staff member will support you.
